Green Smoothie Bowl (Print)

A vibrant blend of spinach, tropical fruits, and crunchy toppings for a refreshing morning start.

# Ingredients:

→ Smoothie Base

01 - 2 cups fresh spinach leaves, washed
02 - 1 frozen banana, sliced
03 - 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
04 - 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
05 - 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk or milk of choice
06 - 1 tablespoon chia seeds
07 - 1 tablespoon nut butter, optional for creaminess
08 - 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, optional to taste

→ Toppings

09 - 1/2 cup granola, use gluten-free if needed
10 - 1/2 cup mixed fresh fruit such as kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, banana slices
11 - 1 tablespoon shredded coconut, optional
12 - 1 tablespoon chia seeds or hemp seeds, optional

# Directions:

01 - Combine spinach, frozen banana, frozen mango, frozen pineapple, almond milk, chia seeds, nut butter, and honey or maple syrup in a high-speed blender. Blend on high until smooth and creamy, adding more almond milk if mixture is too thick to reach desired consistency.
02 - Pour the smoothie base evenly into two serving bowls.
03 - Top each bowl with granola, fresh fruit, shredded coconut, and extra seeds as desired.
04 - Serve immediately with spoons while smoothie base remains thick and cold.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The frozen fruit creates an ice cream like texture without any dairy or added sugars
  • You can customize the toppings based on whatever is sitting in your fruit bowl
  • It somehow makes eating two cups of spinach feel like a treat instead of a chore
02 -
  • Frozen fruit is nonnegotiable here because it creates the thick, spoonable texture that makes this a bowl instead of a beverage
  • You need a reasonably powerful blender or you will be chewing on spinach bits, which is unfortunately not the same experience
  • The longer you let it sit, the thinner it becomes, so prepare your toppings before you start blending
03 -
  • Freeze your spinach in advance if you buy it in bulk and worry about it going bad before you can use it all
  • Pour any leftover smoothie base into ice cube trays for future quick breakfasts
  • Warmed berries on top make a nice contrast when it is cold outside
