Nautical Knot Prosciutto Braid (Print)

A savory braided snack of prosciutto and string cheese, ideal for pizzas or a flavorful standalone bite.

# Ingredients:

→ Dairy & Cured Meats

01 - 8 sticks string cheese (mozzarella or similar, part-skim preferred)
02 - 8 slices prosciutto (thinly sliced)

# Directions:

01 - Lay a slice of prosciutto flat on a clean surface.
02 - Place a string cheese stick at one end of the prosciutto and roll it up tightly. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
03 - Take two prosciutto-wrapped cheese sticks and gently braid them together from one end, twisting carefully to avoid tearing. Continue braiding pairs until all are braided. For a thicker braid, braid three wrapped sticks together.
04 - Arrange the braided ropes around the perimeter of a pizza or flatbread before baking, or serve as a standalone appetizer with dipping sauces.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It takes just 15 minutes and makes you look like you spent an hour in the kitchen.
  • No cooking required unless you want extra crispness, so it works raw or baked depending on your mood.
  • String cheese and prosciutto are forgiving ingredients that transform into something unexpectedly elegant.
02 -
  • The cheese needs to stay cold while you work, so if it gets too soft and starts slipping out of the prosciutto, pop everything in the fridge for a few minutes before continuing.
  • Prosciutto is delicate—handle it gently during braiding because the meat will tear if you rush or apply too much pressure.
03 -
  • Keep everything cold and work quickly—warm cheese is slippery cheese, and slippery cheese doesn't braid cleanly.
  • If you're serving these at a party, you can prep the wrapped sticks hours ahead and braid them just before guests arrive for maximum fresh appeal.
